[Danita’s note:  According to Jackson Co. Marriage Records, Jessee and Marilla married on April 4, 1879.  A death record for Bell (Lelia Belle), who married Peter Hatcher, listed her parents as J.S. & M. Casto.  Marilla was the daughter of Elijah R. & Rachel Charlotte (Deweese) Casto and was found in the household of her sister, Charlotte (Casto) Green in 1870 with 4-year-old Lelia.  Marilla married Nicholas Casto in 1912 but the identity of the father of Lelia Belle and Mary Frances Casto is still unknown.]

[Danita’s note:  According to Jackson Co. Marriage Records, Isaac Riffle, age 23, married Ann Eliza Tolley, 26, on Jan. 11, 1874. The death records for both John and Charles give their parents as David and Anna Casto, as well as the obituary for John in 1947. A recent discovery (Feb., 2005) listed a grave for David Casto who died in the Civil War on May 21, 1862 and I believe he may be Ann’s first husband.  He was the son of Elias and Elizabeth (Casto) Casto.]

[Danita’s note:  According to Jackson Co. Marriage Records, A.A. Reynolds, age 24, married Permelia Casto, age 23, on Dec. 18, 1879.  An earlier marriage record was recorded on Feb. 9, 1871 for Thaw Casto, age 22, son of Elmore and Phoebe (Casto) and Amelia Ann Shinn, age 22, daughter of George & Elizabeth.  Ms. Shinn apparently was confused about her age because she only age one year from 1871 to 1879!  The first marriage age had to be incorrect as it would have made her born in 1849, I double-checked this with other census records and believe 1855 is the correct year and she was only 16 when she married the first time.

How strange is it that in 1900 the Archibald Reynolds household was living next door to the Isaac Riffle household, exactly as I laid them out randomly on this page?]

[Danita’s note:  I had several Casto daughters this could be—that of James and Sarah (Tolley) Casto or that of Bernard & Elizabeth (Dewees) Casto or that of John McDade Casto and wife Sarah (Anderson).  More research is needed!

[Danita’s note:  Not many people know that George Board Casto (1841-1918], son of Levi and Hannah (Carney) Casto, was married in May of 1870 to a girl named Louisa.  He remarried in 1884 to Tennie McCoy.]
