Harrison County was created in 1784 from Monongalia County, (West) Virginia. At that time, Harrison County included all or parts of the following counties: Barbour, Braxton, Doddridge, Gilmer, Lewis, Marion, Randolph, Ritchie, Taylor, and Upshur. Records for residents of all of these counties prior to their formation will be found in Harrison County and/or Monongalia County.
An excellent source for Harrison County information is the Harrison County, WV GenWeb Page: http://www.rootsweb.com/~wvharris/
