Obituaries of Castos & Extended Family

Jasper H. CASTO
Funeral services will be held this (Wednesday) afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at the Moss Chapel Church near Rockcastle for Jasper H. CASTO, 71 year old farmer, who died in a Charleston hospital Monday afternoon. Mr. CASTO had been ill only a few weeks and was taken to the hospital several days ago but his condition failed to improve. The body was brought to the Vail Mortuary in Ripley Monday where it was prepared for burial. Mr. CASTO, the son of the late McComas and Florence (STAATS) CASTO, is survived by his widow, Mrs. Ida (JOHNSON) CASTO; one daughter, Mrs. Mary KESSEL of Given, and three sons, Early CASTO of Given, Howard CASTO of Rockcastle and Kenneth CASTO of Bluefield. Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Inez CASTO of Given and Mrs. Shirley HOLLAND of Minersville, Ohio, and five brothers, Clate CASTO of Liberty, Claremont CASTO of Evans, Okey CASTO of Raine, John CASTO of Ripley and Orville CASTO of Pollack, Missouri. Jasper Hayes CASTO
Jasper Hayes CASTO, son of McComas and Florence (BONNETT) CASTO, was born Sept.  10, 1876, departed this life Aug. 4, 1947, aged 70 years, 10 months and 24 days.   He was united in marriage to Ida Blanche JOHNSON on Sept. 13, 1900, and to this  union three sons and three daughters were born, two daughters preceded him in  death. He leaves to mourn their loss his wife and the following children: Early  H. CASTO and Mrs. Mary KESSEL of Given, Howard CASTO of Rockcastle and Kenneth  CASTO of Bluefield, and 15 grandchildren. Also surviving are one sister, Mrs.  Inez CASTO of Given, and six brothers, Clate CASTO of Liberty, John M. CASTO of  Ripley, Clermont CASTO of Evans, Okey CASTO of Racine, Ohio, Orville CASTO of  Pollock, Missouri, and Shirley H. CASTO of Minersville, Ohio. Three sisters  preceded him in death. John E. (Jerry) CASTO
John E. (Jerry) CASTO, 77, Marietta Rt. 6, died at 9:30 p.m. yesterday (December 25, 1970) in Marietta Memorial Hospital. He was born Oct. 20, 1893 in Jackson County, W.Va., a son of the late Charles and Mary Scarbrough CASTO. On July 1, 1911, he married Renna Mae Molze, who survives with eight sons and three daughters: Bernard, Charles, Ira Richard, John, Robert, Russell, Paul and Ronald CASTO; Mrs. Harold (Gladys) Sheppard, Mrs. Mary (Mary) Alexander and Mrs. Charles (Jean) Britton, all of Marietta. Two sons, Donald and Ernest, and one daughter, Cleo, preceded him in death. There are 38 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren. Two brothers and one sister survive, Oshel CASTO, Charleston, W.Va.; Orvie CASTO and Mrs. Goldie Williams, both of Tampa, Fla. Two brothers, Virgil and Clyde, preceded him in death. Mr. CASTO had been employed at Fenton-Art Glass Co. for 33 years until his retirement. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 458. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday in Doudna & McClure Funeral Home with burial in Valley Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home. Note: There are a couple of errors in the printing of the obit. "Mrs. Mary (Mary) Alexander" refers to "Mrs. James (Mary) Alexander." The children preceding John in death included three sons rather than two sons and a daughter. Cleo was a boy. "Marietta Times" submitted by Pam Bailey

John J. CASTO

Mr. John J. CASTO, single, 62 years of age, was stricken with heart failure and died suddenly at the home of his brother-in-law, W. A. WRIGHT, in West Charleston on Tuesday, January 28. The remains were taken to his home near Staats Mills, where interment was made Saturday after services at the Sinaiville Church. The body was accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. WRIGHT. John L. CASTO
Funeral services for John L. CASTO, aged Belgrove resident, were held from the  home there Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock with the Rev. James ANDERSON in  charge and burial was in the family cemetery. Mr. CASTO, a native of the county,  was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. David CASTO and had spent his life in the Belgrove community. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Levina CASTO; five sons, Kenna of Charleston, Loren of Ripley, Hoyt and Owen, both of Belgrove and Emmitt at  home; four sisters, Mrs. Macel PARSONS of Charleston, Mrs. Elsie PARSONS of Ripley, Mrs. Ethel STAATS of Wilding and Mrs. Opal LITTON of Staats Mills; two  half-brothers, Ike CASTO of Ripley, and Emmitt RIFFLE of Pt. Pleasant. Also  surviving are 42 grandchildren and five great grand children. (Jackson Herald,  Fri., 19 Dec 1947)

John Lane CASTO
Funeral services for John Lane CASTO, 3 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Owens CASTO  of Belgrove, who died Jan 3, 1941, were held at the home on Jan 4, 1941 with  Rev. A. C. HARPOLD officiating. He was born Jan 28, 1938. Besides his parents he  is survived by three brothers and three sisters. (17 Jan 1941)
