Floyd F. BARNETT

COLUMBIA, S.C. - Floyd F. "Jack" Barnett, 60, of Columbia, formerly of Liberty, W.Va., died Jan. 24, 1997.  He was an Army veteran who served in Vietnam, a Protestant and a member of VFW Post 641. He was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Purple Heart and Bronze Star with Clusters.  Surviving: wife, Faye Barnette son, Lloyd of Red Bank daughters, Linda Brazel and Pamela Brazel, both of Columbia mother, Martha Jeffries Barnett of Red House, W.Va. sisters, Phyllis Crago, Sharon Garton and Bessie CASTO, all of Red House, Donna Work man of Hurricane, W.Va. two grandchildren.  Graveside service with military graveside rites will be noon Monday at Greenlawn Memorial Park. Oscar Dorsell BARNETT

ROCK CASTLE - Oscar Dorsell Barnett, 73, of Rock Castle, Jackson County, died March 27, 1999, in Grant Hospital, Columbus, Ohio, after a long illness. He was a native of Liberty, received a master's degree from Marshall University, was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity and was a retired loss control engineer from Alexander & Alexander, Columbus. He was a former employee of the Mercer County Board of Education, Ohio Inspection Bureau and Carroon & Black, former president of Central Ohio High School Football and Basketball associations and a member of Ohio Football and Basketball Officials Association. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, a member of VFW, Shady Lane Presbyterian Church, Columbus, and Poca United Methodist Church and was former treasurer of Poca Lions Club. Surviving: daughters, Jeanne Elizabeth Brigner of Orient, Ohio, Jacqueline Sue Schwenk of Washington, Ill.; sons, Joseph Dorsell of North Carolina, Jeffrey Thomas and Matthew, both of Groveport, Ohio; sisters, Mary Anne Taylor of Poca, Julia Dare CASTO of Rock Castle; brothers, Clovis Okey Barnett of Lexington, Ky., Dempsey Lee Barnett of Poca; 12 grandchildren. Service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Poca United Methodist Church with the Rev. Norvell Robertson officiating. Burial will be in Marnett Chapel Cemetery, Liberty. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Ray Edward BARR

Funeral services were held on Monday afternoon at Rockcastle for Ray Edward BARR, 27 day old son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray E. BARR, who died at the family residence on Leon RFD on Sunday. The Rev. Mr. BUMGARDNER had charge of the service and the Vail Funeral Home had charge of the arrangements. Survivors include the parents; two brothers, Robert and Delbert; one sister, Louise; the maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John L. SAYRE of Leon, and the paternal grandmother, Mrs. Flora (BARR) CASTO of Rockcastle.   (Jackson Herald, Fri., 22 Aug 1947)

Roscoe S. BIRD

Roscoe S. Bird, 84, of Nitro died March 9, 1999, in Thomas Memorial Hospital, South Charleston, after a short illness. He was a retired insulator from Union Carbide, South Charleston, with 30 years' service, a member of East Nitro Baptist Church, Masonic Lodge 153, Charleston, Scottish Rite Bodies, Beni Kedem Shrine, Charleston, Junior OUAM 49, Dunbar, and Mountain Lodge, was an Army veteran of World War II and a Purple Heart recipient. Surviving: wife, Masel CASTO Bird; sons, Leonard R. of South Charleston, Jerry P. of Reedy; daughter, Jackie Cottle of Reedy; brother, Earl of Cross Lanes; 10 grandchildren; 13 great- grandchildren. Service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Tyler Mountain Funeral Home, Cross Lanes, with the Rev. Clifford McKay officiating. Burial will be in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens with military rites by VFW Post 8129, Charleston, and Masonic rites by Lodge 153. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Grace CASTO BOGGESS
HURRICANE - Grace CASTO Boggess, 75, of Hurricane died May 2, 1998, after a long illness. She was a native of Ripley, a 47-year resident of Hurricane. She was a graduate of Marshall College and was a retired teacher from Hurricane High School, with 32 years' service. She was a member of Forrest Burdette Memorial United Methodist Church, Hurricane, 4-H All-Stars, Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority, Jackson County Historical Society and Kanawha Valley Genealogical Society. She was charter member of VFW Post 9097 Ladies Auxiliary. Surviving: husband, Arnold A. Boggess; daughters, Rebecca Simmons of Orange Park, Fla., Sara Lee McCallister of Hurricane; son, Christopher Boggess of Fraziers Bottom; sister, Mildred Fisher of Charleston; four grandchildren. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane, where a eulogy will be delivered at 8 p.m. Private burial will be at a later date.
